The Granite Spring site is located a short distance from the California-Nevada border, and it is also near the original road going from Prescott Arizona to San Pedro California. A part of this road followed old Indian trails and is now known as “Old Mojave Road”.
The area is still popular today with the off-roader, and on the day we where there we came across several campers and a lot of vehicle tracks at the site. Even with that, the only obvious damage at the site are some ATV tracks going up and over the dry waterfalls at the spring.
The Granite Spring rock art site is a medium size site consisting of both great Basin Abstract style (Pre-Numic in affiliation) and Grapevine style petroglyphs (Patayan / Ancestral Mohave). There are also several rock shelters and at least two bedrock metates / grinding slick areas.
