Red Rock Canyon 12 is made up of several small rock ring sites located along or near the trail system going from Red Springs / Calico Basin to the loop road above the Red Rock Canyon visitor center. The rings are located exactly where you would expect them to be, on hills overlooking the some of the “original” trails below and near the current entrance to Red Rock Canyon.
The rock rings sites are scattered over several small hills, and except for a couple of them, they are barely recognizable as rock rings. Most of us would walk right by them and say, “Oh look, a bunch of rocks”. But, when you think about people camping or living on these hills a long time ago, maybe even not so long ago, and keeping watch on who – or what – was passing through their lands, that does make it a pretty interesting site.
